The One Where Expensive Doesn't Always Mean the Best

So today hasn't been the best day, but it hasn't been the worst. I got off early from work, and I decided that I was going to treat myself and get my hair trimmed because frankly, it's been nasty lately. I've been putting it off and putting it off because my last hair-capade ended after only 6 HOURS in the salon. And it wasn't even that great of a job. I had to come home and fix the layers myself. Sheeeeesh.
I have been a nomad for hair stylists for about the last year and half since the last girl I loved and trusted betrayed me with those damn scissors/RAZOR and ruined my hair. It's been a long and painful recovery, but my hair is back to normal.
Today I just wanted a trim because I'm attempting to grow out my hair once again. (talk to me in three years) I didn't know where to go or who to see. So I decided, screw expensive places they haven't done anything good for me over the last year and a half. I'm going to the mall for a 15 dollar trim, and a 5 dollar peek-a-boo color. Off I went, hopeful and optimistic.

The girl that ended up cutting my hair looked like she could have been 16. As I sat in that spinny chair, I thought to myself, "MANDY WHAT ARE YOU DOING, THIS COULD BE A DISASTER TIMES INFINITY." But you know what? That 16 year old with a monotone voice did a better job than ANYONE has in a very long time. She didn't try to find out about my personal life, and we just bonded in the fact that we've both had our bangs cut too short too many times, and how awful it is to grow your hair out after an A-line cut. I loved her. If I wasn't moving away soon, I would have taken her card and gone to her again and again.
So the lesson I learned today is that, although you expect better things/haircut&color combos because they are pricey, it doesn't necessarily mean they will be better than something you can get at the dollar store/Master Cuts at the mall in Logan. Well that and treating yourself is important. Everyone needs to splurge and spend some "me" time every now and then.
P.S. It's great to come home and blog with a kitty on your lap. :)
